Timeless Women Survey, 2008

The Timeless Women survey was carried out in 2008 to understand better the lifestyles and attitudes of women with osteoporosis and compare those with the perceptions of doctors who see and treat women with the disease. It was designed to find out who today’s woman with osteoporosis really is, and in particular whether their treatment fits into their lifestyle or is convenient for them.
The survey was conducted in July 2008 by an independent market research agency, Double Helix, and supported by The International Osteoporosis Foundation, Medical Women’s International Association, with a grant from Novartis Pharma AG.
A total population of 1,500 was surveyed, including 100 doctors and 200 women (55 years or over who were selected at random) with osteoporosis in France, Germany, Mexico, Switzerland and the UK. For more information, download the Timeless Women Survey Factsheet, or the Timeless Women Report.

Timeless Moments Survey, 2009

The Timeless Moments survey was undertaken to examine the health related conversations that daughters are having with their mothers. In particular, the survey was designed to establish the key concerns daughters have about their mothers’ health; which health topics daughters most often talk about with their mothers and how concerned daughters are about osteoporosis. The survey shows that when asked about mothers’ health, daughters revealed that their greatest fear is the loss of their mothers’ independence, which is potentially one of the most significant consequences of undiagnosed osteoporosis. In fact, fractures and their potentially life-threatening consequences are the major cause of disability and loss of independence in osteoporosis patients. Despite this, most daughters surveyed are not talking to their mothers about this serious condition.

Loss of independence (43%), reduced quality of life (40%) and becoming unable to lead an active life (40%) are the most frequently cited daughters’ concerns when thinking about their mothers growing older. However, only 7% of daughters discuss osteoporosis with their mothers, though health was the most frequently discussed topic between mothers and daughters (90%) on a regular basis.

In order to encourage discussion about osteoporosis among daughters and their mothers, this year the Timeless Women campaign is launching the Timeless Moments Gallery to encourage mothers and daughters to treasure the special moments they enjoy together and to share these with other Timeless Women via this site.

The Timeless Moments survey was conducted in August 2009 by an independent market research company Double Helix and supported by The International Osteoporosis Foundation, Medical Women’s International Association, with a grant from Novartis Pharma AG. Over 400 daughters aged between 25-45 were surveyed in Canada, France, Germany and Switzerland, and more than 1,000 daughters in China. The total survey population was 1,444 and respondents were recruited from an internet panel of the general population. All interviews were conducted in the respondents native language. In order to ensure that all countries had equal representation in the global data, at the completion of the data capture, the Chinese data was weighted to prevent over-representation in the global set. All figures presented are from the weighted data set.
