- The Medical Women’s International Association (MWIA) is an international, not-for-profit, non-governmental organization (NGO) representing female doctors in more than seventy countries across the world and has been in existence since 1919.
- MWIA’s mission is to improve the health of women and children within the communities in which their members work.
- The goals of the MWIA include:
- To offer medical women the opportunity to discuss the health and well-being of humanity
- To promote the general interest of medical women by developing cooperation, friendship and understanding without regard to race, religion or political views
- To overcome gender-related differences in health and healthcare
- To promote health for all throughout the world with particular interest in women
- The MWIA has special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and is in official relations with the World Health Organization.
